Kounde has been a target for Chelsea since last summer when they reached a personal contract with the Frenchman but were unable to reach an agreement on a transfer cost with Sevilla, who insisted that the player would only depart if his release clause was satisfied.

A £56 million bid would now be approved for Kounde a year later, under pressure to sell, although Sevilla was perplexed by Chelsea’s lack of contact over a transaction.

Boehly eventually contacted Sevilla on Wednesday morning to start negotiating a move for the center-back, according to ABC Sevilla.

All sides believe that the deal will go through without too much difficulty because Sevilla has lowered their asking price since last summer and Kounde is content with the personal terms that he had agreed to with Chelsea a year ago.

Back in 2019, Kounde transferred from the French club Bordeaux to Sevilla.

The 23-year-old joined the Spanish LaLiga powerhouses as a regular starter right away, and in just his first season, he led them to the Europa League title.

He was included in Didier Deschamps’ France team for Euro 2020 last summer as a result of his strong performances throughout the 2020–2021 season.
