The English Premier League team of the week for matchday 37 was dominated by Newcastle United and Leicester City. The former got an impressive 2-0 win against Arsenal as they left the Gunners with an almost impossible task of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

The Gunners are now two points behind Tottenham Hotspur ahead of both teams’ last game of the season.

Leicester City also got a 5-1 win against Watford after the Foxes had conceded the first goal of the game. Goals from Jamie Vardy (twice), James Maddison, and Harvey Barnes (twice) got Brendan Rodger’s side all three points.

English Premier League Table After Arsenal’s 2-0 Loss

Arsenal lost 2-0 to Newcastle United in a match that saw the Gunners lose their grip on the fourth position.

The pressure was on Arsenal to perform after they had lost 3-0 to Tottenham Hotspur. The loss to their top-four rival had reduced Arsenal’s lead in the top-four race to one point, leaving Mikel Arteta’s side with no option but to win their last two English Premier League games to be guaranteed a place in the Champions League next season.

However, the loss against Newcastle United means that Arsenal is now two points behind Tottenham Hotspur and would need to win their last league game while Tottenham Hotspur loses against Norwich City to qualify for the Champions League.
