Mikel Arteta’s side were made to look average on the first half as they failed to cope with the host’s intensity and pressure. However, despite seeing more of the ball in the first 30 minutes, Newcastle United failed to trouble Aaron Ramsdale in goal.
The closest either side came to opening the scoring was in the 38th minutes when Allan Saint Maximin forced Aaron Ramsdale into a brilliant save.
The Gunners also threatened in the final third through Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and Emile Smith Rowe but they were unable to break through Newcastle United’s defence.
Few minutes into the second half, Ben White’s own goal gifted the home side the opener. The Arsenal centre back tried to stop Callum Wilson from scoring but ended up putting the ball past Aaron Ramsdale.
In the 85th Bruno Guimaraes fired home a rebound to double his side lead and the host went on to seal all three points.
