How will all of these newcomers perform in their clubs? Time will only tell.
GK – Nick Pope joined Newcastle United from Burnley, £10m
Nick Pope had little chance of staying at Turf Moor and playing in the Championship after Burnley was demoted. He was acquired by Newcastle United for the relatively low sum of £10 million.
He’s been well-liked by the Magpies so far. He has played well in the home draw against Manchester City and has preserved two clean sheets in five league games.
RB – Neco Williams left Liverpool for Nottingham Forest, £17 million.
It was inevitable that Nottingham Forest would have at least one name in this lineup after signing roughly half of humanity.
Neco Williams has had a promising start to life in the Midlands despite the limited pool of right-backs available. He has performed in every minute of the campaign so far, proving to be effective at both ends of the pitch.
CB – Wesley Fofana left Leicester City for Chelsea, £70m
Only two other center backs in the history of English football have cost more than £70 million. Virgil van Dijk is one of them, while Harry Maguire is the other. This makes it impossible to predict Wesley Fofana’s performance at Chelsea.
But for the moment, it’s a noteworthy signing. He brings youth and Premier League experience to a position that the Blues needed to bolster.
CB – Lisandro Martinez joined Manchester United from Ajax, £46 million.
Last season, Manchester United allowed their most goals to be scored in the Premier League era. There was obviously a need for a new center back, and Lisandro Martinez of Ajax filled that role.
In his first two games, the Argentine was singled out for criticism because of his short stature. But his outstanding displays against Liverpool, Southampton, and Leicester City quickly put the doubters to rest.
LB – Ivan Perisic; free transfer from Inter Milan to Tottenham Hotspur
Few people were aware of Ivan Perisic’s intended position when he first joined Tottenham Hotspur. Everyone concurred, however, that a player of his caliber was a complete steal on a free transfer.
The 33-year-old has into Antonio Conte’s starting XI at left wing-back after sitting on the bench for the first two games of the season. He has contributed two assists, a penalty win, and two clean sheets for his team.
RM – Antony move from Ajax to Manchester United, £80.75m
For the majority of the summer, Antony was near the top of Erik ten Hag’s wish list. In the final few days of the window, he finally acquired his man.
The Brazilian was the most expensive signing in 2022, costing just over £80 million. It will be intriguing to watch how he adjusts to his new side given the high expectations that come with this cost.
CM – Casemiro joined Manchester United from Real Madrid, £60 million
Casemiro’s acquisition attracted a lot of interest. Although many questioned his age and price, he is undoubtedly a very excellent player.
But his talent is undeniable. He is perhaps the world’s best defensive midfielder. In recent years, Man Utd has urgently needed to upgrade this position. He should significantly help them this season.
CM – Lucas Paqueta joined West Ham United from Lyon for £36.5 million
The fact that a starter for the Brazil national team has joined the squad that placed seventh the year before tells a lot about the wealth in the Premier League.
Although West Ham United’s first few games haven’t been easy, the addition of Lucas Paqueta should give them a boost. He contributed to another 11 goals and 18 goals in his two seasons at Lyon.
LM – Raheem Sterling left Manchester City for Chelsea for £47.5 million
Raheem Sterling put up amazing numbers at the Etihad Stadium, but others remained unconvinced, thinking he would struggle if Manchester City cut him loose. That theory will be tested during this season.
For the England international, things have been going very well thus far. With three goals and one assist in five games, he has been a shining light for Chelsea throughout a trying start.
FW – Gabriel Jesus joined Arsenal from Manchester City, £45m
Gabriel Jesus was never a standout during his time at Man City. He is now enjoying his time in the spotlight at Arsenal.
The offensive player is off to a very promising start in north London. Only five players have more goals scored than him, but he shares the league lead with three assists.
FW – Erling Haaland transfer from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester City, £52 million
Erling Haaland’s move to Manchester City was by far the most well-known transaction of the summer. The young player, who had a great time at Borussia Dortmund, was being chased by practically every elite team in Europe.
And he wasted no time at all in creating an impression in England. He has now scored nine goals, making him by far the league’s top scorer. With this total, he became just the sixth player in Premier League history to score hat tricks against Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest.
