Arteta would be really unhappy with his team’s defensive performance especially in the second half of the contest.

Arsenal started the game brightly but their inability to break Newcastle’s resilient defence in the first half proved costly.

Newcastle grabbed the lead in the 55th minute through Ben White. The Arsenal defender found the bottom corner of his own goal to put Arsenal in a very difficult situation.

Arsenal came close to grab an equaliser but Saka’s effort drift wide in the closing stages of the game. Things got worse for Arteta’s men in the 85th minute as Bruno Guimaraes found the back of the net with a brilliant strike from close range.

Arsenal’s loss to Newcastle takes them two points adrift of Tottenham on the Premier League as we approach the final week of the season.

However, Arteta has himself to blame if Arsenal fails to qualify for the Champions League. The manager had the chance to take the pressure off his team but just didn’t take it.

Arsenal wouldn’t have been under a great pressure if Arteta had sealed at least a draw against Tottenham last week.

With just one game to play this season, Tottenham are more likely going to finish at the 4th position on the Premier League table.

However, Arsenal should still sack Arteta even if he manages to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Arteta is clearly not the right man for the long-term project at Arsenal. He has shown a great level of inconsistency since he took over the reign in 2020.

Arsenal should sack him even if he makes the top four this season because the future doesn’t look promising with him at the realm of affairs.
