Five Manchester City players, including Kyle Walker, John Stones, Kalvin Phillips, Jack Grealish, and Phil Foden, were chosen for the most recent Three Lions team.
Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire, Dean Henderson, who is on loan at Nottingham Forest, and Luke Shaw are United’s four representatives in the group. Jadon Sancho cannot, however, make a comeback.
Rashford may be in Southgate‘s plans for the World Cup, but he also indicated that players like Sancho who were left off the most recent squad might still be on the plane to Atar:
“There were certain players we wanted to keep involved this time, but that said it doesn’t mean that this is the end for some of the others who aren’t involved.
“Marcus Rashford, for example, has shown some encouraging signs recently. He is a player we know well so if he can perform at a high level in the next few weeks, he of course will be under consideration.”
