“Empoli announce that they have removed Paolo Zanetti and his two assistants, Nicola Beati and Fabio Trentin, from their first-team coaching duties,” the Tuscan club announced in a statement.

Aurelio Andreazzoli, who has already had three spells in charge at Empoli, was later named as Zanetti’s successor with the club saying that the 69-year-old “has committed himself until the end of the season, with an option for a further season”.

Zanetti, 40, joined Empoli in June 2022 and ensured his side’s survival in the top flight, finishing last season in 14th place.
