Twenty-four-year-old Kiptum died in a crash in February this year, and after the news of his death broke, a section of social media users shockingly linked Kipchoge to the young star’s death.
In an interview with the BBC, Kipchoge could not hold his tears as he recalled feeling unsafe for himself and his family after the wild rumours on social media.
He said he suffered threats on his life and his properties due to the false links and speculations that ran wild on Twitter especially.
He described the day that Kiptum died as the worst day of his life, even recalling that some of his friends and training mates turned against him.
He said the worst moment was when he had to call his mum. While recounting that moment, he put his hand over his face as he grappled to control his emotions.
As earlier reported, Kipchoge skipped Kiptum’s burial, and many Kenyans came to his defence after his absence caused a stir.
Many argued that Kipchoge was unfairly being criticised criticised. Kiptum was buried on Friday, February 23, in an emotional ceremony attended by President William Ruto and other prominent leaders..CONTINUE READING>>
