Pundits and fans alike who predicted early elimination for the likes of Morocco and Croatia have been made to eat their words. Those that had Spain, Brazil and Germany as their favorites have also been left red faced.
What is most surprising is the manner of this eliminations. Take Brazil for example who qualified for the round of 16 after just 2 games and made light work of their first knockout tie but today, they were eliminated by a Croatian side who have hardly been convincing.
Spain on the other hand won their first match 7-0 and looked like the real deal in the tournament but they could only go as far as the round of 16.
Germany were thought to be wounded lions who were still hurt by their early elimination in 2018 but they hardly roared in Qatar. If there is one thing that these eliminations have thought us, it is that this world cup is unpredicted and even the best of pundits can predict the winner.
