Looking at the economic situation of Nigeria, one can easily see a very disturbing trend which points to the fact that all is not well. In Nigeria, things appears to become costly as the years goes by. In most instances, whenever the price of most commodities in Nigeria goes up, it hardly ever comes down. A lot of people have attributed the bad economic situation of Nigeria to insecurity, inflation, the effects of Coronavirus, corruption, and bad leadership. Whatever the case might be, it is expected that every Nigerian leader from state to federal levels must come together and bring out policies that will help better the country’s economy.

It is not pleasing to see some Nigerian leaders worrying over which political party rules Nigeria in 2023 when hunger and starvation is on the increase in millions of households. A well respected Governor such as the Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai is among those leaders that are expected to be in the forefront of thinking about sustainable policies that can help the county return to its glory days. Well, instead of El-Rufai to focus on which political party is doomed to fail in 2023, his main focus should be on solving the current security challenges in his state and helping to suggest some good policies and strategies that can help the country economically.

The truth of the matter is that if the country continues to struggle economically, people’s suffering will increase and governance will become more difficult to administer in the year 2023 because of lack of funds and over dependence on borrowing. Increased suffering in any society can lead to political aparty and as such, El-Rufai should concentrate on bringing up good policies which will lead to better economy that can lead to better political participation on the part of the people.

Concentrating on which party is going to do well between PDP and APC in 2023 should not be the main focus of our political leaders. Good standard of living improves the well-being of citizens of a country, and good standard of living improves political participation. If good policies which improves the lives of the people comes from a particular political party, the people will undoubtedly vote for such party. 2023 election should not be the major concern of El-Rufai and other Nigerian leaders.
