In this article in line with a publication on Medical News Today, we are going to have a look at how and why diabetes causes itching on the skin.
People living with diabetes are advised to not take constant itching on any part of their bodies for granted because it could indicate that an anomaly is going on and the earlier it is attended to, the better for you.
Causes Of Diabetic Itching
People who have diabetes may experience constant itching on any part of the body usually due to a condition or better put, after effect of diabetes known as polyneuropathy.
This happens due to the nerve damage that happens when a person’s blood sugar level remains high for long and when this happens, you may find yourself itching repeatedly or find some parts of your body constant itching you.
This is just one side of a coin, there are other factors that could trigger persistent itching on some parts of your body due to Diabetes and it has to do with the fungal infections that may arise due to high blood sugar level; and for the fact that the body being diabetic may not be able to fight infections as much and as effectively as a person who doesn’t have diabetes.
Another aspect is that, before nerve damage happens or start to occur for people with diabetes, there is often a circulation of an inflammatory substance known as cytokines which often lead to itching on the skin or part of the body with damaged nerves.
