Ali Keffi made this statement in an interview with AIT while speaking on the reported shooting down of a Nigerian Air Force fighter helicopter by bandits in Niger State’s Shiroro LGA in August 2023.
He refrained from making definitive statements about the incident however he expressed confidence in the current GOC of 1 Division, noting substantial progress and achievements in the area of the division’s responsibility
In Ali Keffi’s words: “An aircraft can be brought down by small arm like riffle, depending on the altitude and angle of shot. So I have not seen the report, I am not privy to any report so I would not jump to a conclusion as to exactly what happened.
I don’t think there was infiltration, there were perhaps lessons learned by the commanders. I know the current GOC 1 division, he was my Chief of Staff when I was General Officer Commanding, a fantastic officer.
