Liverpool vs Manchester City...CONTINUE READING

On Sunday afternoon, the defending champions will face the stumbling contenders in a blockbuster Anfield match when Liverpool visits Manchester City in the Premier League.

The two table powerhouses are already separated by a 13-point gap, with Liverpool losing 3-2 to Arsenal last weekend and City defeating Southampton 4-0.

The Premier League championship competition has been a two-horse fight between Liverpool and Man City for the last five years, but Jurgen Klopp says Sunday’s match won’t determine Liverpool’s fate this year.

Liverpool were left to lament dubious officiating decisions in last week’s 3-2 loss to Arsenal, but Rangers handled the wounded Reds differently in the Champions League.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min scored a 13-minute hat-trick against Leicester City earlier this season, but Mohamed Salah did it faster in a 7-1 destruction of Celtic.

Salah scored in the 75th, 80th, and 81st minutes in a game in which Scott Arfield had placed Rangers ahead. Salah, Darwin Nunez, Harvey Elliott, and Roberto Firmino (2) completed a dramatic comeback for Liverpool.

Liverpool welcome Man City to Anfield with their undefeated home record for 2022-23 still intact. Jurgen Klopp’s team have now gone 27 top-flight games without losing at Anfield.

Leeds vs Arsenal

In Sunday’s Premier League showdown at Elland Road, an Arsenal squad that simply can’t stop winning will face a Leeds United one that hasn’t won since August.

The Gunners are still one point ahead of Manchester City at the top of the league, while Jesse Marsch’s side sits 14th with nine points.

Leeds fell from winning their first three Premier League games to losing their final five due to a lack of ruthlessness.

Pascal Struijk put the Whites up at Crystal Palace last weekend, but Odsonne Edouard and Eberechi Eze won 2-1.

Leeds are 14th in the Premier League with nine points from eight matches, three ahead of 18th-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers with a game in hand.

The majority of Leeds’ misfortunes have come on the road, as Marsch’s side welcomes the Premier League leaders to Elland Road unblemished at home this season, surrendering only two goals in 360 minutes of top-flight play.

Leeds have only gone undefeated in their first five home Premier League games twice previously, and Arsenal will appreciate a return to familiar soil following their midweek efforts.

Aston Villa vs Chelsea

On Sunday afternoon, Chelsea will go to Aston Villa with the goal of extending their Premier League winning run to four games.

Villa are down in 16th place despite a four-game undefeated streak of their own, while the Blues are up in a fourth place as the weekend gets underway.

Despite how Thomas Tuchel was ousted from the Chelsea bench, Graham Potter has brought about a seismic transformation in Chelsea’s performances.

After coming from behind to beat Crystal Palace, the Blues had won three straight with clean sheets, beating Wolverhampton and AC Milan.

Wolves’ lack of a permanent head coach and AC Milan’s 10-man first quarter at San Siro have helped Potter and Chelsea, but it shouldn’t diminish their performances.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has scored in his previous three games, giving Chelsea ruthlessness in the last third.

Chelsea has kept three consecutive shutouts for the first time since February.

Manchester United vs Newcastle

Manchester United will want to make it four consecutive victories in all competitions when they host an in-form Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon in the Premier League.

The Red Devils are presently fifth in the standings with 15 points from their first eight games, while Newcastle are sixth with 14 points despite having played one more game than Erik ten Hag’s side.

Ten Hag has had some bad times as Man United boss, including a 4-0 loss at Brentford and a 6-3 loss at Manchester City, but there have also been good indicators.

With Thursday’s 1-0 Europa League triumph against Omonia, Manchester United have won eight of their previous 10 games in all competitions, including five Premier League victories over Liverpool, Southampton, Leicester City, Arsenal, and Everton.

Five victories and three losses from eight matches have given the Red Devils 15 points, putting them in fifth place, one point behind fourth-placed Chelsea and nine behind leaders Arsenal, with a game in hand.

Man United came from behind to overcome Everton last weekend, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring his first Premier League goal of the season. Ten Hag’s team will now want to maintain their fine run of form against an in-form Newcastle on Sunday.
