After Nuno Mendes launched a throw-in into the corner of the box, Ronaldo used his shoulder to lift the ball into the path of William Carvalho, who shot wide.

The move has gone down a storm online, with many praising the star’s ingenuity.

One wrote: “If Ronaldo passed that ball to Ronaldo it would be 1-0.” Another said: “What an assist that could have been. Reminds me of prime ronaldo, always using his shoulder.”

A third wrote: “Ronaldo can pass the ball better with his shoulder than most people can with their feet.”

It comes after Ronaldo, in his nation’s first group game against Ghana, became the first men’s player to score in five World Cups following his game-winning penalty that won them the game.

In their second World Cup group stage game against the Latin Americans, at the Lusail Stadium, Ronaldo wheeled away in celebration on 54 minutes after being closest to the ball before it nestled in the net.

The dubious goals panel stated that it was actually Bruno Fernandes who scored, but Ronaldo’s glancing header was less than inches near the ball, nonetheless.

True to form, the superstar celebrated as though the goal was his, running to the stands and performing his trademark ‘Siuuu’ celebration, with his face lit up like it was his own goal that had put his side ahead.
