Tinubu reportedly arrived at Kalu’s home at exactly 4:25 p.m. After a warm exchange of pleasantries, both men had a closed-door meeting that lasted for more than two hours.   Political pundits believe that their meeting might not be unconnected with the politics of the 2023 presidential election.

After the meeting, Tinubu told Sunday Sun in a brief interview that they discussed national issues. He added that the interest and stability of the nation are above everyone’s interests. blank  “We discussed the way forward for the country and this country is important and greater than anyone’s ambition.”

“We have been together and concerned about the stability, progress, development, and security of the country.

“The future of our youth is more critically important than selfish and personal intentions.’’

Although none of the two men has formally declared his intention to run for president in 2023, speculations are rife that they are nursing such ambitions.

Could Tinubu’s visit be a precursor to the much-anticipated handshake across the Niger?”

The phrase “handshake across the Niger” originated from a former Senate President, the late Chuba Okadigbo. It signifies a political alliance between the Southwest and Southeast regions of the country. These two geopolitical zones do not see eye to eye on political issues. The mutual suspicion and animosity between them have been going on since the nation’s independence.

The handshake across the Niger mantra seeks to do away with these old prejudices and rivalries as the first step towards finding a common front to tackle the nation’s myriad of problems.

Many Nigerians, especially those from the southern part of the country, are convinced that if the two geopolitical zones come together, they would form such a formidable force that would turn the country around for good on all fronts.

Previous attempts to forge such an alliance between both regions did not work out.

Could the two political heavyweights from both regions cause it to happen this time around? blank  There is no doubt that both men wield tremendous influence in their respective regions. Therefore, they have the wherewithal to make it happen.

The truth is that without such an alliance, the South would find it extremely difficult to wrestle power from the North in 2023.

Fortunately, given the prevailing political atmosphere in the country, the conditions for such an alliance to succeed and thrive are ripe.
