That is according to ESPN.

So, what are the details involving Chelsea and Manuel Ugarte? Let’s take a look.

What’s the story?

Well, it was said that Chelsea’s deal to sign the Uruguay international hung in the balance after the Blues refused to go any higher with their salary offer – that was according to Record.

Now – however – it seems the ball is rolling once again as ESPN boldly state that the signing is close.

It is said that the £16,000-a-week man has been the subject of interest from PSG as well, with both Chelsea and the French giants willing to trigger Ugarte’s €60m (£53m) release clause.

Interestingly, ESPN add that Sporting CP are actually encouraging the South American to join the Blues, as Chelsea’s offer contains ‘solidarity payments and various bonuses which makes their proposition more attractive’ – something PSG’s bid does not.

Pochettino is described in the report as being a huge admirer of the 22-year-old.

In fact, it was even said by O Jogo in Portugal that the Argentine is pressuring Todd Boehly to wrap the signing of Ugarte up quickly, something the American now appears to have done.

Ugarte already a Chelsea fan favourite

According to Record in Portugal, PSG have offered Ugarte substantially more money to join them over Chelsea.

However, the Uruguayan is keen to play in the Premier League with the Blues, so he is willing to forgo a bit more in wages and sacrifice European football to make the move happen.

Now, that is sure to make him an immediate fan favourite at Stamford Bridge when that becomes common knowledge amongst supporters in west London.

Amid a tough time for Chelsea, with no European football to offer for the first time since the 2016/17 campaign, Ugarte’s willingness to join is exactly what Pochettino needs to see from potential signings.
