Frank Lampard has praised Todd Boehly’s “passion” after reports surfaced that the Chelsea co-owner called the team’s season “embarrassing” to motivate them for Tuesday’s Champions League match against Real Madrid....CONTINUE READING THE FULL ARTICLE>>>

After Saturday’s humbling 2-1 loss to Brighton in the Premier League, Boehly visited Chelsea’s struggling players in the locker room.

Stumbling Chelsea sits 11th in the league after Lampard’s return to Stamford Bridge in a temporary capacity resulted in three straight defeats.

They lost the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals 2-0 to holders Real last week, making it very difficult for them to repeat as champions, a feat they accomplished two years ago under previous manager Thomas Tuchel.

The London club was purchased from Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich by a group headed by Boehly and Clearlake Capital Group last year.

When Boehly visited the Chelsea locker room last weekend, he allegedly vented some of his aggravation about the team’s struggles.

Kepa Arrizabalaga, goalkeeper for the Blues, remarked in Monday’s news conference that Boehly’s statement didn’t seem out of the ordinary.

In every game, Todd is in the locker room, he claimed.

After each game, he would have a new conversation with us.

What he said, I will not repeat. When he enters the locker room, it is business as usual.

Former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard (July 2019–January 2021) expressed satisfaction with the owners’ right to vote, noting that their involvement “shows passion.”

That’s OK with me,” he finally admitted.

“Perhaps there was criticism of our former owner (Abramovich) for not being present at games and not being visible, and in my opinion, that wasn’t always the case.

“But when an owner is very vested in their interest in the team and wanting to help and improve, it’s their prerogative to have the input that they want.”

Lampard, who was fired as Everton manager in January, denied claims the Blues were “broken” following the season they had.

I quote: “We’re not where we want to be,” he stated.

The term ‘broken’ seems strong to me. The league standings are accurate, and we are now trailing 2-0 in this match. Those are the facts of life.

Since we are in that time, “we have to work against that and show in every way we can.” But he insisted that his squad had a chance to win the Champions League match.

It’s possible to do anything. We are a fiercely competitive squad that has earned our spot in the quarterfinals. We know, too, that this is a formidable foe,” he said.
