It is understood that Brighton and Hove Albion have set an asking price of around £85m for Caicedo. Chelsea are confident of getting the deal done without much problems, but for now, they have to hold off sending in a bid.
This is because, generally speaking, they are trying to avoid completing big money transfers before the end of the month to avoid inflating this football year’s FFP book.
The reason why they made the Nicolas Jackson deal with Villarreal was because, one, it is not a big money deal and secondly, the Spanish club needed it to balance their account before the end of this football year which is on the on 30th of June.
The only reason why they also jumped into the Manuel Ugarte’s deal is because of PSG’s move to sign him.
So for any Chelsea fan out there, don’t expect Caicedo’s deal to be done this month. This month is more about sales, balancing the book, and beating FFP.
By July 1, when a fresh football year begins, signings will start happening and by then, we will expect to see the blues go hard for their priority target, Moises Caicedo as well as other targets.
