Cucurella handed in a transfer request last week in order to press for a move away from the Amex Stadium & it was previously reported that he would sign for Premier League Champions, Manchester City this summer transfer window.
On Monday, Chelsea snatched the potential transfer away from City after they failed to match Brighton’s asking price.
As per reports, the London based outfit have agreed to pay Brighton’s £50 million asking price, placing them squarely in the driver’s seat to acquire the highly-rated defender.
According to Fabrizio Romano, full agreement have been reached between Chelsea & Cucurella on personal terms and the Spain international is ready to accept a transfer to Stamford Bridge once a formal agreement has been settled between both parties.
Cucurella is getting closer to joining Chelsea, which would be a big coup for the Former European Champions given that the 24-year-old was widely tipped to sign for the Citizens, Discussions are set to continue today to finalize the deal.
Cucurella, who recently signed for the Seagulls from Spanish club, Getafe in a £15 million transfer in 2021, was awarded the club’s Player of the Year during the 2021-22 campaign after an impressive debut season.
The Spaniard mostly operates as a left-back & will have to compete with Injury prone Ben Chilwell to secure a place in the first team.
Cucurella isn’t the only player who could arrive at Stamford Bridge soon. As per reports from the Sun, Chelsea are close to hiring the services of Gabriel Slonina in a £12 million move with Chicago Fire.
The USA international is reported to have signed his contract & completed his medical examinations, the deal is subject to an official announcement from Chelsea, which will come in the upcoming days.
