On May 28th, Liverpool will face Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final. Of course, it’s the biggest game of the season, as the Reds look to capture their seventh European Cup.
Therefore, how can Liverpool exact vengeance and reclaim the trophy?
Matthias Sammer, who guided Borussia Dortmund to victory in 1997, spoke to Sport Bild about the game.
He believes Jurgen Klopp has a weapon capable of defeating Real Madrid in Paris.
“I don’t want to talk about defence, but about the quality of possession going forward: Benzema is in the form of his life,” he told Sport Bild.
“It’s amazing that Vinicius has developed very well throughout the season because Real have made a change with younger players.
“This can also be seen in Rodrygo or [Eduardo] Camavinga and [Federico] Valverde.
“Liverpool display brutal flexibility and power up front with [Sadio] Mané, [Diogo] Jota, Luis Díaz and [Mohamed] Salah coming down the halfway, coming down the side and finally Mané emerging as a centre-forward.”
Sammer fails to include Roberto Firmino, who is arguably Liverpool’s most versatile player. But he’s absolutely right about the potency of the Reds’ front line.
Depending on the game, Klopp may essentially shift his entire approach one way or the other. He can use Mané, Jota, and Salah as a goal-scoring three that runs in behind. He can bring Diaz and Mané in for an incredibly dynamic trio.
Or there’s Firmino – the tried-and-true combo with Mané and Salah that’s already delivered so much success. There are counter-attacking players, possession players, and Klopp has the option of switching to a front-four if necessary.
This is how Liverpool could defeat Real Madrid. Their ability to vary things up and attack fiercely from every aspect might change the game, and it’s how the Reds can reclaim the Premier League championship.
