The Clarets are fighting for their lives at the bottom of the table and any decision can have serious implications on their Premier League status.

Towards the end of the first half, Tottenham were given a penalty in controversial circumstances.

Replays showed that the ball flicked the outstretched arm of Ashley Barnes in the build-up to a Harry Kane’s shot going wide, with referee Kevin Friend pointing to the spot after viewing the pitchside monitor.

Kane made no mistake with the spot-kick, firing into the bottom corner to put his side 1-0 up.

There were furious protestations from the Burnley players and staff, who were arguing with the officials.

Antonio Conte was also seen getting involved in the heated conversations on the touchline.

After the half-time whistle, television cameras showed the arguments carried on down the tunnel between the players and staff.

Commentating for talkSPORT was former Chelsea man Scott Minto who gave his verdict on the decision.

He said: “It’s a penalty, it’s as simple as that. I feel sorry for Ashley Barnes.

“He’s an attacker in his own box, he doesn’t mean his arm to be out there. Davinson Sanchez is certainly not trying to play it onto his arm on purpose.

“It’s a really unfortunate set of events, but his arm is up. It’s above his shoulder and in an unnatural position.

“He has to give a penalty.”
