Nigerians were shocked when they read about how innocent children were burnt to death by gunmen suspected to be bandits in Sokoto.
According to Guardian.ng, armed gunmen ambushed a vehicle of 21 passengers traveling from Sabon Birni Local Government Area in Sokoto State on Monday.
Some of the passengers including children who were traveling from the town of Sabon Birni to the town of Isa near the Nigerian border with Niger were then burnt to death.
There is an urgent need for the federal government to intervene in the rate of insecurity in Sokoto state. The government should deploy more securities agencies to make sure the gunmen who are suspected to be bandits to be brought to justice to the innocent children they have killed.
The military should bring more soldiers for checkpoints on highways that are sharing borders with the Niger republic to protect villages from gunmen who may be coming from neighboring countries.
Sokoto state is one of the states in Nigeria that has a high rate of unemployment and poverty which is also some of the factors contributing to insecurity in the state. With the aim of reducing insurgency, the state government should endeavor to create more employment for their people by bringing both local and foreign investors to establish their businesses in the state.
The rate of drop out of school children is also a threat to security, they should be enrolled in school by state government to prevent them from adding to the insecurity of the state.
The people of Sokoto state can assist against the fight of insurgency by informing security agencies whenever they find people doing suspicious things in the motor park, market places, religious centers and other public places.
