Recall that the over 150-year-old Malam Abdulkarim Mosque, Zaria, collapsed in August, leading to the death of eight individuals.

Speaking as the Chief Launcher at the Mosque reconstruction appeal fund in Abuja, Rabiu launched the fund with N2bn and pledged technical support to the project until it was completed.

He said: “This is an important event. Because we have always maintained at BUA and ASR Foundation. We are always looking for opportunities to support communities, to support people to intervene in areas that will impact positively and this is such an event.

“So, I am very humbled for the committee to have invited me to be the fundraiser. These are some of the things that we are always looking out for to support.

“The mosque is very historic, you know, this is a mosque that was constructed in 1835 or 1836, almost 200 years ago, and there was a problem a few months ago. And the mosque is going to be constructed. So I was approached to come and be the fundraiser.

“So, we donated the sum of N2 billion towards the reconstruction efforts of this mosque, and if we are not able to get enough money for the completion of this project, our foundation will support further so that the project is completed”.

At the event, which was chaired by the former Nigerian Vice President Namadi Sambo, the co-launcher, who is also the Chairman of Mangal Air, Alhaji Dahiru Barau Mangal, donated the sum of One Hundred Million Naira (N100,000,000), Mr. Wale Tunibu, One Hundred Million Naira (N100,000,000) and Alhaji Musa Bello also donated the sum of One Hundred Million Naira (N100,000,000) respectively.

In his address, the Emir of Zazzu, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, who prayed to Allah to repose the souls of those who died when the mosque collapsed, described the over 150-year-old Masjid as historic.

The monarch called on all Muslims to contribute to the reconstruction of the mosque, which he noted would be one of the best for decades to come.
