White blood cells protect your body from bacteria, viruses, and fungus, as well as aberrant cells and other foreign materials. When the cancer cells attack white blood cells, it begins to function abnormally, attacking healthy body cells instead.

Leukemia is caused by a combination of factors, including your lifestyle and diet. Blood cancer can be caused by a variety of factors, including:

1. Exposure to harmful chemicals.

People who have been exposed to large levels of radiation (from an atomic bomb explosion, working in an atomic weapons complex, or a nuclear reactor accident) are more likely to acquire leukemia.

Long-term exposure to high concentrations of solvents like benzene, such as in the workplace, is a known risk factor. CLL could potentially be connected to Agent Orange exposure, a chemical commonly used during the Vietnam War.

2. Excessive Smoking.

According to a new study, smoking cigarettes can increase a person’s risk of developing leukemia by 30% and cause up to 3,600 instances of adult leukemia per year in the United States.

According to researchers, combined results from 15 studies involving more than 4.5 million people suggest that cigarettes may be responsible for 14% of all adult leukemia diagnoses worldwide.

3. Excessive Consumption Of Alcohol.

Excessive alcohol intake has been proven to cause various forms of cancers including leukemia. There are three main ways alcohol can cause cancer:

Damage to cells: When we consume alcohol, our bodies convert it to the molecule acetaldehyde. Acetaldehyde can harm our cells while also preventing them from healing themselves.

Changes to hormones: Some hormones, such as estrogen and insulin, can be elevated by alcohol. Hormones are chemical mediators that cause cells to divide more frequently, increasing the risk of cancer cells developing.

Changes to cells in the mouth and throat: Alcohol increases the likelihood of toxic substances being absorbed by cells in the mouth and throat. This allows cancer-causing chemicals (such as those contained in cigarette smoke) to enter the cell more easily and cause harm.

It’s important to remember that it’s alcohol that causes harm. It makes no difference if you consume beer, wine, or spirits. All sorts of alcoholic beverages have the potential to cause cancer.

4. Excessive consumption of cured meat.

A recent study reveals that children who eat cured meats like bacon and hot dogs daily may have a higher risk of leukemia, while vegetables and soy products may help protect against cancer.

Researchers discovered that in a study of 515 Taiwanese children and teens with and without acute leukemia, those who ate cured meats and fish more than once a week had a 74% higher risk of leukemia than those who ate these foods very occasionally.
