Blood cancer is a form of cancer that affects your blood cells’ development and function. The majority of your stem cells are created in your bone marrow. While you may never know how you got leukaemia because the actual cause is often unknown, some risk factors, such as radiation exposure, have been related to the disease. The following are some of the known risk factors for leukaemia:

1. Exposure to harmful chemicals.

Chemical exposure, such as benzene. Rubber, oil refineries, chemical factories, shoe manufacture, and gasoline-related businesses all use benzene. According to several research, excessive formaldehyde exposure in factories increases the risk of blood cancer.

2. Excessive smoking.

Cigarette smoking has been linked to an increased risk of leukaemia. Although no clear molecular mechanism has been postulated, evidence of systemic effects of cigarette smoke and the presence in cigarette smoke of chemicals linked to leukaemia risk make a causal association conceivable.

3. Unnecessary exposure to radiation.

The risk of acquiring blood cancer is increased if you’ve had radiation treatment for previous cancers. The effects of radiation on those who were exposed to atomic bombs in Japan were researched. In general, the higher the radiation dose, the greater the risk of getting blood cancer, and the high doses of radiation at atomic bomb sites, as well as at nuclear reactor accident sites, considerably raise the risk of blood cancer.

Conclusion.

It’s critical to speak with your doctor if you think you’re at risk for leukaemia, especially if you have a strong family history of the disease. Leukemia can often go undiagnosed in its early stages, with regular blood tests being the only method to detect it. Additionally, if you begin to feel chronic exhaustion, non-clotting bleeding, bruise susceptibility, or a protracted fever, you should see your doctor.
