Trump is leading Haley by double digits in the polls and he and his surrogates are urging her to drop out after tonight in a show of party unity.

Haley’s campaign, in turn, put out a strategy memo Tuesday morning pointing to a number of Super Tuesday states that have open primaries, which would allow independents and even Democrats to vote for her, potentially embracing her less MAGA and more moderate Republican message.

Biden’s Democratic backers see this as a win-win – either Trump wraps up the nominating fight, which will invigorate Democratic voters and grassroots donors, who despise him, or the ex-president has to deal with a protracted Republican primary.

While Nevada is the next state to vote on the primary calendar, a weird quirk between the state wanting a primary and the Republican Party keeping its caucus means Trump and Haley won’t appear on the same ballot.
That moves the primary race to South Carolina – Haley’s home state – which holds its primary on February 24.

After that comes Super Tuesday, which will take place on March 5.

Axios reported that the Biden campaign has internal data that indicates most of the undecided voters the Democrats are targeting don’t believe Trump will end up the GOP nominee – as they haven’t been fully engaged in the primary process.

If it is indeed Trump – which looks very likely – Biden’s team believes the dynamics of the race will change, with those undecideds moving to the president’s column.

currently has Trump leading Biden in a general election match-up by 2.9 percent, which is within most surveys’ margin of error.

That being said, a Biden-Trump match-up seemed destined for months, with Trump having a commanding lead against his primary rivals in Iowa, a state he eventually won by 30 points, New Hampshire, Nevada, South Carolina and the Super Tuesday states.

So Trump officially becoming the nominee may not shake up the race as much as Democrats would like.

New Hampshire also has a history of extending presidential primaries..

There was Sen. John McCain’s win in 2000 over Texas Gov. George W. Bush that kept the race going a few more weeks – though Super Tuesday.

And there was Sen. Hillary Clinton’s 2008 win in the state after Sen. Barack Obama bested the former first lady in the Iowa caucuses.

Clinton’s Granite State win kept that primary going until late May of that year.

At midnight Tuesday, the first New Hampshire voters – residents of the far-north community of Dixville Notch – made their selection for president.

All six voters picked Haley.

From 1992 through 2012, the voters of Dixville Notch correctly predicted the eventual presidential nominee for both parties.

However the streak ended in 2016, the year of Trump’s first non-traditional presidential bid.
