In the last summer transfer window, they also sold Darwin Nunez to Liverpool for a fee in the region of €80 million. In the summer of the 2020, Manchester City snapped up Ruben Dias from Benfica. However, the Portuguese club got €71.6 million from his sale.

Manchester City also got their current number one, Ederson Moraes from the Portuguese club but had to pay €40 million before they were able to sign him.

Axel Witsel was sold to Zenit Saint Petersburg in 2012/13 for €40 million. Wolverhampton Wanderers striker, Raul Jimenez was signed from Benfica. He joined the English Premier League side for €38 million.

Nelson Semedo, who currently plies his trade with Wolverhampton Wanderers, was a product of Benfica’s academy. When Barcelona came knocking in 2017, the Portuguese club had to let him leave for €35.7 million.

Benfica has also sold Victor Lindelof and Renato Sanches to Manchester United and Bayern Munich respectively. The former was sold in 2017 for €35 million and the latter was sold the season before that for the same amount.
