Barcelona themselves recognise the importance of de Jong’s sale, in the midst of an economic crisis that has crippled the club’s pursuit of top targets in the market this summer.

Valued at over €75 million, de Jong’s sale could go a long way in helping Barcelona fund moves for top targets such as Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, among many others.

Barcelona based journalist Achraf Ben Ayad has recently dropped an update on Frenkie de Jong’s future at Barca, during a Q&A session on Twitter.

When asked about the former Ajax starlet, Ben Ayad claimed the midfielder is keen on remaining at Camp Nou and continuing his career at Barcelona beyond the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old is happy with his life in Barcelona. He wants to work under Xavi Hernandez and become a pivotal part of the club’s success in the years to come. He may even see himself as the long-term general in the middle of the park.

However, Ben Ayad suggests no one in the Barcelona camp has given him any promises over his future at the club.

With speculations rife over Manchester United’s willingness to meet Barcelona’s demands for the midfielder, it appears the club are keeping their options open.

They recognise the importance of generating money through player sales and in de Jong, they could generate a sizable transfer fee that will go a long way in helping them land the likes of Lewandowski, Raphinha and co.

But with two months still remaining until the new season starts, it will be interesting to see how things transpire and what the future holds for Frenkie de Jong over the coming weeks.
