The security challenges posed by the Islamic extremists terrorist group Bokoharam is not one Nigerians are oblivious of. From the days of their leader cum founder, Mohammed Yusuf to Shekau, to the new leadership, the group has been known for violence.

This is why Olusegun Obasanjo, former president of Nigeria, has subtly hinted that Bokoharam will still be around in 10-15yrs time. According to him, they are a security challenge which does not go away easily.

Obasanjo’s statement, that the over 14 million out-of-school children, will likely be their recruits, if the children are not educated is also a cause for concern.

A lot has been thrown at this group, all to no avail. So many Nigerians have also had reasons to speak on the ever lingering crisis. Nigerians have from time to time, heard from the military and the federal government, that Bokoharam is weakened and that security agencies are winning.

While it is true, that security agencies are doing their best, gallant men and women losing their lives in the fight against these murderers, what is not true is that they have been crushed. This is because, they keep attacking as evidence to the contrary.

Nigerians have seen this over and over again, that once they are reported crush, they usually strike again and again and again. Almost as if they are responding to security agencies.

This is why I think that Obasanjo is right and that statement is a reality check for Nigerians. As retired military general, he knows better about the dynamics of of war. Which is why he knows that the guerrilla war in the Northeast, is not ending anytime soon.

This is not to diminish the efforts of security agencies, but to save Nigerians from hoping Bokoharam menace is ending anytime soon, because it is not.

This will also help Nigerians know fake and unrealistic campaign promises when they hear them. Anyone claiming to crush Bokoharam in months after assuming office, is either a liar or ignorant of the situation.
