Most blood cells develop in the marrow, the soft material at the center of most bones. Bone marrow contains hematopoietic stem cells, which produce all the different kinds of blood cells, depending on what kind your body needs at a particular time.
These stem cells are extremely busy, making billions of blood cells every day. When any of the three types of blood cells grow old or are damaged, they die, and hematopoietic stem cells then produce new ones.
Some of the signs and symptoms of leukemia are:
•Chills.
• Losing weight without trying.
• Petechiae.
• Easy bleeding.
Your lifestyle and diet are great factors that contribute to the development of leukemia. Some of the things that can lead to blood cancer are:
1. Smoking
Cancer-causing substances in tobacco smoke get into the bloodstream and spread to many parts of the body.
2. Alcohol
your body breaks it down into a chemical called acetaldehyde. Acetaldehyde damages your DNA and prevents your body from repairing the damage. DNA is the cell’s “instruction manual” that controls a cell’s normal growth and function.
3. Salted fish
Most of the dry fish variety in the market is laced with toxic chemicals that can cause killer diseases like gastric ulcer, gastritis and cancer. The matter came to light recently when consignments exported to Bangladesh were rejected after chemical analysis revealed high traces of banned drugs and pesticides.
