Football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, confirmed on Twitter that due to FIFA rules, Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang can’t play for any other club other than Barcelona or Chelsea.

Consequently, we have revealed when he will be able to do so since Barcelona has said they would not sign him unless it’s for free.

FIFA rule 5.3 is the rule that is preventing him from playing for any other top club in Europe other than Barcelona. It states that players can be registered with a maximum of three clubs during one season, but they only be eligible to play official matches for only two of those clubs.

The reason for this is that the striker was registered in La Liga by Barcelona before he moved to Chelsea, who has also registered him in the Premier League.

Playing by the rules, a third club like Atletico Madrid, who are said to be interested in signing him, can register him but he can’t play for them until the start of next season.

However, there is an exception to the rule, which stated that such a player will be able to play for a third club in that same season if the two clubs involved in the transfer belong to associations with overlapping seasons.
