The convict, Olarewaju Seun was arraigned before the court on a one count charge of sexual assault.
The charge read, “That Olarewaju Seun, at Ado Ekiti within the jurisdiction of this court did sexually assault a three-year-old girl, contrary to section 31(1) of Child Right Law, Cap C7, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
In her evidence before the court, the mother of the three-year-old girl had said “My daughter did not allow me to wash her private parts when she was bathing, when I checked, I saw it red and swollen, I was so scared. When I asked what happened to her bum bum, she repeatedly said, “it was Seun”.
She also added that when she understood what happened to her daughter, she immediately reported the case to the police who later took over.
The prosecutor, Kunle-Shina Adeyemo presented three witnesses and submitted various items, including the defendant’s statement, images of the victim and defendant, and medical report as evidence.
The defendant, represented by Ekene Luke, appealed for leniency and presented for witnesses. In the judgement delivered on Thursday, Justice Familoni expressed belief in giving the young defendant a chance for redemption and being a law-abiding citizen.
