The Gunners roll into the season with their hands on silverware after pulling out a comeback against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side to claim the 2023/24 season’s Community Shield at Wembley.

The game started with Manchester City predictably starting in fine form, claiming ball possession from the first touch and forcing Arsenal to chase shadows during the main parts of the first 45 minutes.

On Arsenal’s end, Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber were the notable stars of the half as they restricted whatever ball movement City’s Bernado Silva tried to pull out for Erling Haaland through the wings.

Mikel Arteta’s side looked to be on course for a traditional defeat to Manchester City again, with Julian Alvarez almost doubling the score line minutes later as he was coursed through on goal against Ramsdale.

Ramsdale’s instinctive save to deny a 2-goal deficit kept the game hopeful for Arsenal, who thanks to a master class by Leandro Trossard netted the equalizer in the last minutes of added time to force the game into penalties.
