It was indeed shocking when news broke out earlier this week that Eyo Ndem, a founding member of the People’s Democratic Party in Cross River State will be joining the All Progressives Congress. No one could believe it, not until preparations for his defection rally started in earnest and TDN had to confirm directly from the Architect.
While the news of Eyo Ndem’s defection sends chills down the spines of members of the People’s Democratic Party, the All Progressives Congress on the other hand are full of celebration and jubilation as preparation are massively on going to welcome the traditional and political leader to the APC family.
As part of preparations to welcome Eyo Ndem, the he party’s Chairman, Barr Alphonsus Ogar Eba held a meeting with major stakeholders of the Party from the South, to plan the defection while calling on them to come out in their numbers with all their supporters.
In the same spirit, the party had sent out a circular mandating all political appointees and public office holders to ensure they mobilize their loyalists across the state to welcome the former Commissioner for lands and his crowd of supporters to the party.
Just yesterday evening, one of the media aides to the Governor wrote a piece about the defection which he described Eyo Ndem as a “Big Fish”. Members of the party, other political appointees and Members of the State Executive Committee of the party are busy sharing the article all over social Media.
The article titled “Architect Bassey Ndem: The Big Fish in APC Dragnet” reads in full:As the stamp of death continues to settle on PDP’s pallid structures in Cross River with the daily exit of its political juggernauts. One of such juggernauts who has turned his back on the party is Architect Bassey Ndem.
APC sure recognises a goldfish when it sees one. It is not, therefore, a surprise that the party stopped at nothing in ensuring that Ndem joined the progressive family for he is an asset of monumental value, a priceless asset.
Of course, PDP’s pain is APC’s gain and so, for Architect Ndem, APC is a natural habitat where serious minded people with the sole aim of working for the socioeconomic and infrastructural development of Cross River congregate.
Ndem’s defection to the APC is not only a plus for the party, it signposts better days for Cross River.
For an astute businessman, an industrialist and a seasoned professional with the uncanny knowledge of governance and administration, Ndem’s departure from the PDP is a huge blow to the groping club of yesterday men and gain for the APC.
APC has indeed gained a patriot and performer who is capable of holding his own anywhere and offering visionary leadership if called upon to serve the state.
As Commissioner for lands under the government of Donald Duke, Architect Bassey Ndem gave a good account of his vast knowledge on land administration, bringing it to bear on that government, to the admiration and applause of his principal.
And as the Managing Director of Tinapa, he turned the facility around.
Architect Ndem is an employer of labour as many young Cross Riverians are on the employ of his businesses, including the exotic Axari towers.
Architect Ndem was renowned for urban renewal, especially the city of Calabar.
He was instrumental to the building of urban centres we now enjoy.
History, certainly beckons on Bassey Ndem as our dear state and APC get ready for 2023.
