Delta State, Nigeria – The serenity of a quiet Delta State neighborhood was shattered when Pastor Greg Sagie was brutally attacked in his own home.

The shocking incident occurred in the Pipeline area of MTN Road, Sapele, Delta State. The pastor was allegedly killed by a young man believed to be a member of his own congregation.

Greg Sagie, a 60-year-old Pentecostal pastor, was enjoying a moment of reprieve in his bedroom when the assailant, armed with a machete, forced his way into the family residence. The pastor’s two children, aged eight and 11, were in the living room at the time of the horrifying incident.

According to witnesses, the children fled the house in terror and screamed for help, alerting the few residents in the largely isolated community.

An eyewitness, who was among the individuals who took the pastor’s body to the mortuary, revealed the chilling details. “We heard the children screaming for help, shouting that someone was inside attacking their father with a machete.

We ran out and saw the attacker. He appeared to be in his 20s and threatened that he would murder us if we tried to confront him. Then he jumped off the storey building and took off.”

The children, traumatized but unharmed, provided more disturbing details. “The children recognized the attacker. They told us he was a member of their church, even describing where he lived,” added the eyewitness.

The pastor, who suffered grievous injuries to his head, was rushed to the hospital but never made it. Another neighbor, Isaac, sorrowfully recounted, “His car broke down on the way, and he took his last breath before reaching medical assistance.”

This grotesque incident has left the community in utter shock and raised concerns over the safety of religious leaders in the region. Questions are also swirling around the motive of the attack. Why would a supposed church member commit such a heinous act?

As of now, the assailant is still at large, and the search continues, led by the local police.

The news has sent ripples of shock and sorrow through the congregation Pastor Sagie led. The Delta State Police Command has initiated an intensive manhunt for the assailant, who remains unidentified and on the run.
