In the operation conducted jointly with officers from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB), the suspect was arrested after a complaint from a patient.

In his complaint, the victim claimed that the suspect charged him over Kh60,000 for sample tests and went ahead to issue him a fake diagnosis. The doctor claimed the results showed he had a liver disorder.

According to the DCI report, the patient’s condition deteriorated forcing him to seek the opinion of another specialist. “No lab test ran at the Hospital pointed to any liver issues,” detectives stated.

After realising he had been conned by the suspect, the victim complained to detectives who quickly embarked on investigations.

Upon conducting their investigations, the detectives realised that the medical reports issued to the patient by the quack purporting to be lab results from another hospital had been falsified.

Further, the Pharmacy and Poisons Board confirmed that the suspect neither had any proof of registration as a medical officer nor held a business registration certificate.

“The suspect was taken away by Kamukunji detectives and appropriate charges were preferred against him,” the DCI officers stated.

The arrest comes weeks after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki ordered a crackdown on licensed pharmacists and veterinary doctors dispensing drugs without prescription.

Kindiki while making the pronouncement stated that licensed chemists and agro vets issuing prescriptions must provide a certification.

“All unlicensed and noncompliant drug manufacturers, agro vets and chemists are to be shut down with immediate effect,” the CS ordered..<<CONTINUE READING>>
