In 2017, when the acclaimed leader of the IPOB group, Nnamdi Kanu was first arrested, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe played a crucial role in endhowable Nnamdi Kanu to get bail from the court. The IPOB leader, however, jumped bail and fled aboard. Even during the present travail of the IPOB leader, the Senator has continued to show solidarity with the IPOB leader, as the region has been pleading for his release from DSS custody.

The chieftain of the All Progressives Congres (APC) party, Joe Igbokwe has reacted to the interest of Senator Abaribe to contest for the Abia State governorship election. In his statement, Joe Igbokwe said the Senator is using IPOB to gain support and popularity to get into the Abia State, government house, as governor, stating that it will never happen in Igbo land.

Igbokwe disclosed that anyone who is a supporter of a terrorist organization can never become a governor in Igbo land. He noted that if Senator Abaribe should succeed in becoming the governor of Abia State, the state he said will become the Headquarters of terrorists. He further stated that the Senator should contest as many times as he wants but he will never emerge as the governor of Abia State. He disclosed that the APC party will emerge, winner, of the state.

The statement from Joe Igbokwe countering the governorship aspiration of Senator Abaribe can be said to be both political and also has a valid point. In my opinion, it will be wrong to elect someone who is a supporter of IPOB as the governor of any state in the Southeast region of the country.
