Copperbelt police commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba said the incident happened on Sunday around 19:00 hours.

He said the suspect, identified as Aubrey Musebo, took advantage of the drunken state in which the woman was and allegedly forced himself on her. Mr Mweemba said in a statement yesterday that the victim sustained bruises and pain on the private part.

“The victim visited her cousin on July 29 this year in Chambishi. On Sunday, the victim, together with her cousin, her cousin’s husband and the suspect left for Mufulira to have refreshments and returned around 19:00 hours,” he said.

Mr Mweemba said after returning, the woman was in a drunken state and Musebo took her to his place, where he allegedly forcibly had sex with her without using protection.

Police issued a medical report form to the complainant, who is admitted to Chambishi Government Clinic, before arresting the suspect for rape.
