The move will likely happen in the summer so here’s how the Blues could line up next season with Nkunku up front.
Second striker in 3-5-2
Nkunku’s best position is that of a second striker. His Leipzig record this season (12 goals, 2 assists in 15 games) comes from being deployed in a partnership with Andre Silva.
If Potter decides to make this tactical change, Armando Broja is the fittest player to feature in a no. 9 position alongside Nkunku.
Centre-forward in 4-3-3
Nkunku can also play as a lone striker. This way, he would replace Aubameyang in Chelsea’s current starting XI.
With Sterling (if he finally finds his feet) and Mount either side of Nkunku, Chelsea would have a very dynamic front three capable of changing positions and creating chances for each other.
Wide forward in 3-4-3
3-4-3 has been the most widely-used formation by Potter so far this season, so how Nkunku would fit into it?
Easily: by replacing Raheem Sterling, clearly the weakest link in this Chelsea side. Nkunku can play on both sides of attack, and on the left he can be more threatening as he could use his strong right foot to cut inside and score.
Bonus: Nkunku as wing-back
Graham Potter has made himself a sort of a reputation for trying everyone at the wing-back position. So how would Nkunku fit in there?
