The former Chelsea and Atlético Madrid forward, 33, has agreed a one-year deal until next summer after leaving Brazilian side Atlético Mineiro in January.

Costa was initially denied a work permit because he did not fulfil the points criteria. Which was due to his lack of recent match-time at club level and recent lack of international appearances for Spain.

Wolves had made a special application, which has now been approved.With Raul Jimenez and new signing Sasa Kalajdzic out till 2023 due to various knee injuries, wolves were in dare need of a striker to fill in for the absent duo. Wolves could be without a recognized striker at Anfield, but It remains to be seen whether Lage picks Costa in his squad after so long out.

He made just 19 appearances for his previous club Atlético Mineiro before terminating his contract in January. Costa returns to the Premier League, having last featured in England back in 2017 with Chelsea, winning the Premier League under Antonio Conte.

Wolves play Manchester City at Molineux immediately before the international break on Saturday, 17 September.
