The 22-year-old joins the club on a six year deal for an initial fee of £64.1million (€75m). The fee could rise to a club record of £85.4m if all potential add-ons are paid out.

He’ll wear the number 27 shirt vacated by Divock Origi, who leaves the club has a free agent this summer. He’s Liverpool’s second signing after Fabio Carvalho, who will join from Fulham on July 1.

Both Neil Mellor and Trent Alexander-Arnold welcomed Nunez, with the current Liverpool right back joking on Twitter: “How may I assist you?”

The former Benfica man will get his Anfield career underway next month when the international transfer window opens on July 1. News of the signing comes amid interest in winger Sadio Mane, who has been the subject of two bids from the Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
