It wasn’t the best performance from Thomas Tuchel’s men and the manager wouldn’t be too surprised with the outcome of the contest.
Chelsea didn’t start the game well as they conceded a goal in the space of 6 minutes. James Maddison found the back of the net with a sublime strike from the edge of the box to give Leicester a deserving lead.
Alonso grabbed the equaliser for Chelsea in the 34th minute with a spectacular volley from close range after receiving a delightful pass from Reece James.
Pulisic had a glorious opportunity to clinch a win for Chelsea but the American attacker couldn’t hit the target from just two yards.
However, it is quite easy to blame Thomas Tuchel for Chelsea’s poor result against Leicester. The German manager made a terrible decision in the second half to ruin Chelsea’s chances of winning the contest.
It remains unclear why Loftus-Cheek was introduced in a game of such intensity. The sensational midfielder had no contribution in the game and clearly ruined Chelsea’s attacking fluidity.
Mason Mount would have been a great threat to Leicester’s defence if Tuchel had introduced him in the game. However, Tuchel snubbed the productive attacker just to exploit Loftus-Cheek’s physicality.
