By beating the Blues in the penalty shoot-out, Liverpool have gone past Manchester United to become the most successful team in England having now won 67 trophies compared to United’s 66.
However, the Reds latest ascension to the apex of English football is down to Manchester United’s failings in the last couple of years.
Manchester United Last Trophy Win
For context, the Red Devils have not won a single silverware since their UEFA Europa League triumph over Ajax in 2017. 5 consecutive seasons have now gone by and still, there has been no sign of glory at Old Trafford.
While United started the campaign as the most decorated English team, their disastrous performance allowed Liverpool to shift the country’s bragging rights back to Anfield.
It goes without saying that had United been prolific at winning titles this past seasons, their arch rival Liverpool would probably not have attained their latest feat.
With two more trophies still up for grabs this season, there’s a chance Liverpool could add to their silverware cabinet again and further rub salt on United’s woeful run this past 5 campaigns. It is their time of celebration and the Reds are loving every bit of it.
