After a dominant performance from Portugal in the first half which saw Unai Simon denied Diogo Jota with a superb save and Bruno Fernandes fired into the side netting.

Ronaldo failed to score from close range few minutes into the second half after being played through on goal by Diogo Jota.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s sloppiness in the final third also came as a surprise. He was wide open in the box and presented with a golden chance to put his side ahead, but his sloppiness allowed Gaya to recover back and dispossess him and late in the second half, missed another chance after Alvaro Morata’s opener. Thus, his poor performance cost Portugal the maximum points against Spain.
