Salt is made up of nearly forty percent sodium and sixty percent chloride.

Some of the foods that are not refined contain little or no sodium content. Salt intake is not generally bad for the body because it has its benefits.

It can promote contraction and relaxation of muscles, helps electrical discharge to travel through the nerves of our bodies, and creates a state of equilibrium between the water and minerals we consume.

Your body doesn’t need too much sodium. Unfortunately, some people eat more than the normal amount of salt they should eat every day.

Excessive salt in your body can cause hypertension, heart attack, and stroke. According to WebMD, you’ll know you’re eating too much salt when you start seeing these signs on your body:

1. You will notice that you’re feeling abnormally thirsty. You’ll feel dehydrated because your body is drawing water from your blood cells.

You can negate this salty reaction by drinking a lot of water to make your blood cells healthy again.

2. You will notice that your blood pressure rises above normal. This indicates that there’s excessive sodium in your kidney.

When there is too much salt in your kidney, it becomes hard for it to remove unnecessary water from your body. This leads to an increase in blood pressure.

3. You will notice that your feet, hands, ankles, or face are swollen. It can be deceptive to think that you are adding weight due to good nutrition. It’s a sign of excessive salt in your body.

4. You will discover that you’ve suddenly added weight. The rate at which you are adding weight will be fast. It’s a sign that you are eating too much salt.
