It’s important to catch cancer early – and with over 200 different types, it can prove tricky at times.

Finding a lump, changes to a mole, abnormal bleeding or weight less are often highlighted as signs to go see your doctor.

Cancer Research UK has compiled a list of seven potential indicators that are not talked about as much.

The most important thing to remember is if you have any such symptoms it is usually nothing serious – but getting them checked out is crucial.

Bloating can be a common symptom for a variety of issues, including cancer

Dr Julie Sharp, head of health and patient information at CRUK, told the Independent: “There are more than 200 types of cancer, with lots of possible symptoms.

“It’s impossible to know them all, which is why it’s important to seek your doctor’s advice.

“Catching cancer early means treatment is more likely to be successful,” she added.

“If you notice unusual or persistent changes to your health, make an appointment with your GP as soon as possible.”

Any symptoms should lead to a trip to the GP

Dr Alexandra Oliver, associate clinical director at Bupa Health Clinics, said there are “many” medical conditions that can cause fatigue, including cancer.

Noticing you’re feeling “constantly” tired, preventing you from working or going about your daily life, you should tell your GP.

Women on their period or going through menopause often suffer night sweats.

However, some cancers can be associated with the same symptom, including leukaemia and liver cancer. Regular heavy night sweats should see take a trip to the doctor.

Persistent coughs could be a sign of lung cancer

Indigestion and heartburn are common problems resulting from certain foods, as well as those who are overweight, smokers or pregnant.

Acid reflux is normal but it becomes persistent it can lead to gastroesophageal reflux disease, a hiatus hernia, oesophageal cancer or stomach cancer.

Mouth ulcers can have an array of causes, including infections, damage caused by brushing or wisdom teeth problems.

However, if a mouth ulcer doesn’t heal it within three weeks could be an indicator of mouth cancer.

Hoarseness is usually linked to a dry or sore throat and can also occur when speaking too much over a short period.

It stems from inflammation but if the symptom persists more than 10 days it could be a sign of laryngeal cancer.

Bloating isn’t usually anything serious and is potentially caused by gastrointestinal condition, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

But if the symptom has lasted a few weeks, it could be linked to gynaecological or bowel cancer.

Coughs usually go away on their own and could also linked to heartburn and allergies.
