Concerns arose until his lead counsel, Paul Muite, confirmed that he had been rushed to the hospital due to a serious health issue. In light of this unexpected development, Senate Speaker Amason Kingiย adjourned proceedings until 5pmย to allow Gachagua the opportunity to attend.

Should Gachagua’s condition worsen, the hearings will be further postponed until he recovers. “Unfortunately, the Senate must adjourn, regardless of what the Standing Orders provide. Impeachment in absentia is a nullity, especially in the case of a medical emergency,” he stated.

Lawyer Dan Maanzo echoed these sentiments, emphasising that the case must proceed according to the law. He stated that Deputy President Gachagua must be allowed to defend himself; otherwise, the case cannot move forward.

“He must be allowed to defend himself, if not, then there is no case,” said Maanzo. Before Gachagua fell ill, chaos erupted in the Senate afterย Kajiadoย senator Seki Lenku Ole Kanar accused Speaker Kingi of bias.

Kingi demanded that the senator apologise, stating that he fairly conducted the hearing process. The situation calmed after other senators intervened and pleaded with Seki to apologise to allow the resumption of the proceedingsโ€ฆCLICK HERE TO READ MORE ARTICLES>>>
