The tribunal, composed of Desma Nungo, Stephen Musau, Muzna Jin, and Abdirahman Adan Abdikadir, directed that the respondent re-serve their responses to the applicant through email. The hearing will address Malalaโ€™s removal and the subsequent appointment of Omar as acting Secretary General.

Malala was removed from his position on August 2, 2024, following a decision by UDAโ€™s National Executive Council (NEC), led by the partyโ€™s national chairperson, Cecile Mbarire. The NEC resolved to revoke Malalaโ€™s appointment after weeks of internal conflict within the ruling party.

In a statement, UDA said, โ€œThe appointment of Cleophas Malala as the interim Secretary General is hereby revoked. These changes are effective immediately.โ€ Following his removal, Hassan Omar, UDAโ€™s vice chairperson, was appointed as the acting Secretary General in line with Article 8.2 of the partyโ€™s constitution.

The tribunalโ€™s ruling now delays these changes pending further legal proceedingsโ€ฆCLICK HERE TO READ MORE ARTICLES>>>
