The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KBNS) has released data on the country’s inflation including specific changes in the prices of food and household items.
As noted in the report for September, some of the items witnessed an increase in prices while some witnessed a decrease.
Increase
Within the last 30 days, KNBS reported that oranges witnessed the highest increase in prices by over 5.2 per cent.
Other food items that witnessed an over 2 per cent increase in prices include potatoes and fresh fish.

Beef with bones, cabbage, maize, beans, onions and charcoal also witnessed some increase in prices.
“The Transport Index increased by 0.1 per cent between August 2024 and September 2024 mainly due to an increase in prices of city bus fare. During the same period, prices of petrol and diesel remained unchanged,” KNBS reported.
Decrease
Prices of sugar, wheat flour and fresh milk also decreased during the last 30 days.
“During the same period, prices of sugar, wheat flour-white and fresh packeted cow milk decreased by 2.8, 2.1 and 0.6 per cent, respectively between August 2024 and September 2024.
“The Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels’ Index decreased by 0.1 per cent between August 2024 and September 2024 attributable to decrease in prices of kerosene, 50 kWh of electricity and 200 kWh of electricity by 2.1, 0.8 and 0.7 per cent, respectively,” read the report in partโฆCLICK HERE TO READ MORE ARTICLES>>>
