After meeting them, Nilsen would invite them to his home. He offered food and drinks to make them feel comfortable. However, things soon took a dark turn. Nilsen would strangle them, killing them in his home.

But when he moved to a new place, he used other ways to get rid of the remains. He boiled the heads in large pots to destroy the brain. The other body parts were cut up and placed in plastic bags.

Soon, the smell of rotting bodies became a problem. In desperation, Nilsen tried to flush the body parts down the toilet and drain. This caused a big blockage. Nilsen, acting foolishly, called a waste company to fix the problem. He even complained about the bad smell in the building.

When the company checked the drains, they were horrified. They found bits of flesh and bone. Some parts looked like a human hand. The company quickly called the police. Nilsen was arrested when he returned home from work.
